NHS 2023-24 Application for New Members

Unveiled over a century ago, the National Honor Society enshrines four pillars at its heart: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. More than mere badges of honor for NHS members, these principles are transformative keys that unlock potential, enhancing every student’s educational journey, and ultimately empowering them to make profound, enduring contributions to our world.” (nationalhonorsociety.org) Are you a rising junior or senior who embodies the four pillars of an NHS member?Rising juniors and seniors may apply for membership in the spring semester. The application process is advertised on the morning announcements, KNN, the NHS Instagram account, the Shield newsletter, and community Facebook pages.  Before applying, students must have a 3.75 weighted GPA, have at least 30 Bright Futures hours recorded, and have no Level 3 or 4 discipline issues.

Applications for the Spring 2024 induction are available outside Mr. Kalfa’s room (730) starting January 20, and completed applications must be returned to him no later than February 29. This is a strict deadline so please plan accordingly.

Here are the dates for the rest of the NHS chapter meetings for current members:

  • Friday, February 2
  • Friday, March 1
  • Friday, April 5

Tuesday, April 16, 6pm in the CHS Auditorium

Next service project opportunity:  Florida Celebrate Literacy Week January 22-26

Earn a service project credit by dressing up on BOTH Wednesday and Friday to spread the message of literacy and scholarly attributes on campus!

Wordy Wednesday: Dress in an outfit inspired by ONE of the following SAT/ACT words:

  • monochromatic – Dress in one color.
  • anachronistic – Dress in your favorite decade.
  • luminous – Dress in bright or fluorescent colors.
    opulent- Dress in fancy or lavish clothes.
  • cerebral – Dress in scholarly attire or like a bookworm.

Friday, 1/26: Reading is Pun!
Dress up as: a pun, an idiom, a cliche, a metaphor, or any other type of figurative language

To earn credit for this service project, check in with Ms. Ashker in Room 540 at any time on both Wednesday and Friday!
