Lady Knights Basketball defeats Columbia, hosts Mainland on Tuesday 2/18 in Regional Semis

The Lady Knights stormed to a 65-50 win over visitor Columbia after playing 3 quarters of back and forth basketball. The teams entered the half with Creekside holding a 22-21 lead. In a game of runs that saw numerous lead changes throughout the night, the Knights built upon their 1 point half time lead to go up by 6 into the final quarter. From there, the visiting Tigers attempted to cut into the Creekside lead only to be met with quick scores from the Knights.

Junior Taylor Gardner showed off her “5 Star” talents in this one, dropping 13 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, and a steal. Meanwhile, Sophomore Emily McIntosh had the greatest night of her young career, going 9/9 from two and 2/4 from 3 for a whopping 24 points. She also added 2 steals and 2 big blocks on Columbia three point attempts. Sophomore Center Peyton Petrick chipped in 7 points and 4 rebounds and Senior Forward Anna Parsanko snagged 5 rebounds and 3 points, all while combining to guard Columbia’s strong post players. Senior Guard Calea Kellet, known more for her 3 point shooting than post defense, held tough on the block as the Tigers tried to exploit a size mismatch. Senior Maddie Lippy had a smooth 15 points as she hit a couple threes, attacked the basket, and knocked down a few free throws, all while snagging 6 rebounds. It was a true team effort that led the Knights to victory in their Regional Quarterfinal game.

In a stunning turn of events, #8 seed Mainland went on the road to #1 seed Lincoln and beat the Lady Trojans in what is arguably the most stunning defeat in sports history. The world has not seen an upset of this magnitude since Team USA Mens Hockey defeated the USSR in the 1980 Winter Olympics. Mainland will now travel to THE CASTLE to take on your Lady Knights in what is sure to be a fantastic 6A Regional Semifinal matchup.

Come on out to THE CASTLE on Tuesday, 2/18 @ 7pm to support your Lady Knights!
