Creekside (3-1-2, 4A)
This week: The Knights have a new look, but they’re getting the same winning results. The biggest highlight came Wednesday, when last year’s Class 4A state finalists played a wild 2-2 draw with county rival Bartram Trail. Sophomore Delaney Tauzel netted one goal and veteran defender Lauren Hollis struck the other, a 40-yard free kick to the top corner. Creekside then traveled down the state for meetings against state powers Merritt Island and Bishop Moore over the weekend, losing 2-0 to Merritt Island and tying Bishop Moore 0-0. They’ll travel to Nease Tuesday for their last game before the Thanksgiving break.

Her heart pounded as she made her way to the field. This was her senior year and a game against district rival Bartram Trail. She was ready to lay it all out on the field! Shelby Weiss played in the eccentric match this past Wednesday. She described the overall feeling of excitement as the fans cheered and players were pumped for the game. Along with the rest of the school, Shelby knew this was going to be a close one. Both teams have had early winning streaks this season and it all seemed to come down to this to determine bragging rights along Longleaf Pine Parkway. With just 3 minutes to spare, Creekside was holding on to a 2-1 lead when, all the sudden, Bartram scored a goal. The game ended as a tie. Whether Creekside won or not, this was definitely an exhilarating match.
To the players going up against Bartram next year, Shelby says, “Uphold the legend. Just remember the game is all about having fun and representing Creekside! GO KNIGHTS!”
The Knights and Bears could meet once again this year in the district tournament come January.

Creekside: After last year’s march to the Class 4A title game, expectations are high again at Creekside. This year, the Knights appear likely to lean on their defense. Lauren Hollis and Hailey Surrency (Florida Southern) are seasoned starters in the back line and Maddie Behan an agile shot-stopper in the net, showing off her skills in last year’s state title game with St. Thomas Aquinas. And they’ve still got enough creativity in midfield, notably from sophomore playmaker Delaney Tauzel, to contend in a brutally tough District 4-4A.
