Creekside High School
Future Business Leaders of America

Creekside FBLA has started an initaitaive to bring volunteers to visit seniors in senior living communities in our area. Called the Legacies, it aims to establish a substantial bond between the volunteer and the elderly while learning from each others unique life perspectives. This generational gap is essential to fostering understanding in our differences and we aim to grow this program to live on to touch many lives in the Northeast Florida Retirement Communities. The following details our time at Silver Treasures St. John’s on Feburary 22, 2025 from a student perspective.

The feeling in the room was hectic and excited. The volunteers chatted excitedly with the senior citizens as they made friendship bracelets. I was talking to two elderly women, and they both had a very interesting history and unique lives. Everyone was friendly and sweet, and an animated staff member sat with us. I made a total of 2 bracelets, one for each senior citizen. They pointed out what color they wanted and their names so I could make a pattern. I added their names onto the bracelet, one with an alternating blue pattern and one with a rainbow pattern. We then talked about ourselves learning from each other. They may have asked a question twice, but their curiosity was heartwarming and was more than happy to answer it again. I learned that one of the woman was Jay Leno’s cousin which was very cool.

While visiting, we once again beaded friendship bracelets but also played games. A group played UNO, which the seniors play often which was a lot of fun for students, who also have a history of growing up with that game. The staff there baked fresh cookies for everyone which were passed around with drinks and an assortment of other snacks. The residents had to go to lunch, which broke up the activity long before anyone wanted to leave. Goodbye’s were said and the students helped bring the seniors down to there lunch room and cleaned up the room. We all look forward to returning soon.
